I recently read an Article in NBCWashington.com which said recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the number of Americans with depression has been increasing along with rising unemployment. This information isn’t surprising but causes serious concern. According to Albert Reece, dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, “this threatens to become a major public health crisis if not addressed.”
Depression causes a lot of health issues that can render a person dysfunctional. However, it is one of the most curable diseases if treated. The best chance for success in treating depression is a combination of psychotherapy (or counseling) and anti depressants. Sometimes depression can be treated by therapy alone if the depression is not too severe. If you know someone who is depressed or you are feeling depressed the first thing you should do is make an appointment with a counselor to be evaluated. Once you are evaluated the counselor can help you decide what steps you need to take towards healing.
