I’ve been reading some articles from Psychology Today and am learning some new facts. I thought I’d share one with you.
Couples that have been married 40 years or more were significantly worse at predicting a partner’s food, film and kitchen-design preferences. This interesting fact came from a study done by the Journal of Consumer Psychology. Researchers say older, long-term couples may pay less attention to each other, either because they view their relationship as already solid or because they think they know their partner well.
I’ve been married for over 26 years and would agree with this finding. I find myself making more assumptions about my husband feeling like I know him rather than ask him his preferences. I guess this means I need to ask him more questions! Good communication is essential for a healthy relationship.
